Currently writing a paper on the Legalization of Marijuana
I know this has been brought up before and had some nice debate going on, so let me hear your views and ideas, facts would be appreciated but not required

Here's a little of my take on this.

I rather marijuana be legalized as it can then be controlled for quality and even taxed by the government. It could become better regulated as tobacco as alcohol use has become with age restrictions and places where it can and cannot be consumed.

PS. My paper will be for legalization.

Legalize it and tax it. Give similar laws to it as alcohol such as illegal to drive under the influence or to buy or use it under age 18 or 21.

Legalize prostitution too while you're at it. Theres a money maker.

Agreed with the tax part. Could make a boat load of money off of it.

That was actually also an option to write on, figured this would be easier to work on though.

marijuana was originally banned for political, not health reasons. it should be legalized, regulated and taxed. it's extremely hypocritical for the government to sell and tax tobacco but condemn marijuana, which does less damage to the lungs if i remember correctly, is non addictive, has possible health benefits, and to be honest is a hell of a lot more fun.

    Finally someone brings up marijuana!

I use to be ignorant towards marijuana, until i did some research on it
Honestly alcohol is way worse for you, you can get alcohol poisoning and damage the fuck out of your liver as well as other parts of your body. From what I have read, marijuana has not been proven to cause any noticable change to your brain and what not. It come from the ground and there are no dangerous chemicals added to it. It is not addictive, but it can become habitual, but then again anything can be habitual. Tobacco is worse than marijuana. If it does become legal, the price will go up but then again you could just grow your own. Im all for it being legalized, more underaged kids die from drinking than pot. Plus you cant OD on it.

It coats cells in your brain with a thin layer of tissue junk causing your memory to be not so good as it used too. depending on how much you smoke depends on how much is layered on. BUT, after awhile it wears off and your cells return to normal. Something like that

Thats what I read about it in highschool. Im trying to find where i got it from. It was from one of those university places lol.

I wouldnt say after you "stop" but if you go a week or more between smoking then i think thats when it starts wearing off. Kinda like it takes less than 30 days to get the thc out of your system, IF you drink a crap ton of water to flush your system out. I cant find the damn article anywhere argh! I read it in my school library!

Alright. I'm strongly FOR legalizing it mainly for these reasons:

    1) The Marijuana industry is a huge industry that will always exist regardless of prohibition. Why not do the sensible thing and regulate it and tax it?

    2) Prohibition doesn't work. It didn't work in the 1920s because people still found a way to get it and in large amounts. Hell in Los Angeles the LAPD was profitting from prohibition! The mayor was elbow deep in the whole thing!

    3) Unlike tabacco, marijuana has effective, proven medical benefits. Everything harmful about consuming marijuana is thrown out the window once you remove the carcinogens from the equations. Vaporizing or making it into food is much more benficial then smoking it.

    4) The only reason Marijuana has the reputation it does now is because of long standing racial and political ignorance. It was considered to make white women get 'Jungle Fever' when it was prohibited in the early 20th century.

    5) It's one of the most resourceful plants there are. Not only can the flower of a female plant (Yes, the part people smoke/eat is a flower) be used, but much of the rest of the plant can be used to make many things such as fabrics, ropes and even paper. Not many other plants out there have so many uses.

    Somewhere I probably shouldn't be.
I had a debate class that came across on this subject, and i was for it....the people against it came up with some pretty good shit against it however I won with the simple statement of.... "Apparently, the opposition has never smoked weed before, or they would know just how wrong they are." What it has to do with the OP Weed should be legal

How do you handle the Drug cartels who sell it and transport it?

Dont you think taking the lively hood of hardened criminals would in turn lead to Retaliation by these heavily armed cartels against the Government?

Marijuana is less lethal than many legal substances. I believe it will one day be legalized. I always found it confusing as to why such negative hype surrounds such a peaceful substance.
