I wish there was a drag strip in downtown Dallas!

I was contacted by the owners of Dallas Raceway today to extend an offer to RKC to hold a weekly car meet there.

They could support THOUSANDS of cars.

    Their lighting is BRIGHT.

They have a RACE TRACK on site. (That part would be extra!)

    BUT...

They are in Crandall Texas, a 20 minute drive from the Randall Reed location. Would people come? Should I even consider it? Perhaps another "monthly meet" but on the 2nd Monday of each month?

Just saying... RKC gets attention... and the good kind... from the right people. Company's WANT to work with us because we bring people, and that makes us worth something! :)

What about a car meet at a DRAG STRIP?

It is on another end of the metroplex, no different then when we held meets all the way out in frisco for example.

Would it be worth it? IDK like any location it would take time for a crowd to build. Having at a track would be a huge plus.

I still haven't made it to this new track yet, but I am still hoping that it turns out to be a great track.

My number one concern would be them wanting to charge for people to "meet", if they need to charge to run down the track that is fine I understand that.

    My understanding would be...

Free Car Meet, Free everything you would normally get.

    Free to watch the racing...

    Pay to race. :)

I think the track takes away from the meet. The meet and GTG should focus on the meet itself and the events generated by the meet. The track would be a distraction to the meet itself.

That's true... a car meet at a drag strip is a track day.... not a meet.

Unless we figure out a new way...:suspicious::suspicious:

I am glad you understand what I was trying to say. The meet should focus on itself with the cars attending, the parking, the congregation, hanging out, PA announcements, etc. The track would tear the audience and attention between the races (in which the cars may not be part of the car meet) and the car meet itself.

I think a meet where people could race legally would great. Why does a meet have to just be standing around BSing? As time has gone on this has already grown from BSing in a lot to showing up to a "event". If things keep on sooner or later every monday night will be a event or have something to draw a crowd of give that night a different flavor. It just seems inevitable at this point.

Would that be bad for RKC? Of course not.....

Then it wouldn't be a car meet. As Jared would say, it would be a track day. For the longest time, a car meet is a congregation of car to meet up, hangout, checkout each others rides and BS. Going to the track is an event.

Then as it stands I don't think RKC should really be in the "meet" buisness any longer. I don't really think a "meet" on the scale of what has been done at Randell Reed is a meet it is too big and in personal it is already a event.

If RKC can secure a buisness that is willing to have us put on a medium/large event that is free on a normal basis why not go with that? To me it just seems like a more legit plan of action, because parking lot hopping, trying to stay under the police radar, getting permits/insurance and keeping property owners happy has become just about impossible with the size of the crowd RKC has been able to draw.

I understand. So who is promoting who? Is RKC promoting the Track or is the Track promoting the meet. Look at it from a marketing point of view. Who takes ownership of the event or credit?

I can see RKC moving away from Weekly GTG and strolling into RKC promoted events with partnerships with the venues or hosts. In fact, the streamline should follow RKC sanctioned event or promoted events where the venue or hosts has the ability to use the Trade Marked name of RKC to promote their event or Venue.

The days of simple weekly GTG or meet maybe be in the past. There are other car meets throughout the week that will feed that void that are not RKC sanctioned. That should be enough to feed the hunger of those who just want to go to a good old fashion car meet.

If we are going to consider something like this I think we should look at this also...

    http://www.ricekiller.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72120

This would be a lot closer and more central.
Of course it would only be good for six weeks throughout July-August.
We could all park in the infield so it would all be very well lit.
The only catch is you have to pay to get into the infield.
Maybe we could work out some kind of discount (FREE) with TMS for RKC parking?
Or... Parking is FREE in the NORTH lot near gate 4.
I just don't know how well lit it would be.
    Jut throwing this out there.
    :)

Real RKC fans will drive there. People follow the meet anywhere it goes. I think having it at a drag strip at the meet would be awesome. Having a fee for the meet would be ok with me if they had the track running all night so it would be another form of entertainment for the spectaters. I wouldn't mind paying a small fee for that if that's what it comes down to. Let me know what goes on!!

NOt that I have a whole lot of say in the matter since I am 800+ miles away. But I think a monthly car meet at 4 different locations on different weeks (4 locations, 4 different mondays), would only help in the spreading of RKC? Make one location the monthly exotic meet, one a classic muscle meet, one a street car meet, and one an open meet?

Being in different areas would only bring in more people from other areas and broaden the reach of others.

    Just throwing ideas from Georgia!

I know desperate times at RKC require desperate measures, but it's getting deep in here. Why would Dallas Raceway pursue a group of owners/cars that would inevitably ruin the track?

It's not going to increase their business.
It is going to increase their track prep costs.
It is going to increase their liability.

    1/8th mile? gtfo with that.

First monday, RKC Car SHOW at Reed.

third monday, 1/4 mile track day at Crandall.

Give it a couple shots, see how it goes.
