BBC NEWS | Europe | Obama wins 2009 Nobel Peace Prize
Seems a bit 'previous' to me, he hasnt really done anything yet. On the basis of some of the above the prize should go to the American electorate for voting him in.

Its really the Nobel 'not GWB prize' or 'well done! you aint invaded anywhere yet prize' or similar ;)

Still, if the aim is simply to show support for what they hope is to come then it is fair enough I suppose.

I agree, ..., even the Nobel committee seems to agree to an extent. Its for what they hope to achieve. In a very small way its will give him slightl;y greater leverage in furthering human rights & any nuke disarmament efforts, ..., "the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population" n'that.

Looking at the list of other winners I'm failing to work out if the Nobel committee has form for this kind of 'encouragement before the fact', ..., but I suspect not

just fink, what with my potentialy polished delicate prose n'that, i could be up for the literature prize

Obama himself even said he's not sure he deserves it but sees somewhat why they gave it to him, as a springboard to help gain peace in the Middle East.

How could he win the NPP for the reasons stated win the deadline for a candidate to be nominated was Feb 1st, 2 weeks after his inauguration. So obliviously he'd hadn't done any of these things yet. And to date he hasn't done any of them yet. So how can he win the NPP when he hasn't done anything but kiss europe's ass these last 9 1/2 months. Obama being awarded the peace prize is premature at best.

I also have a question. Did Reagan win a NPP for peacefully bringing an end to the cold war and the USSR?

yea, i thought the dealine was in febraury? wtf?

i was kinda hoping that the obama vibe would have worn off by now, or at least not gotten to the heads of the people in charge of things like this. he hasnt done shit yet

AND they gave him an award to help him out? so what, next year hes going to get an award just for trying to fix stuff?

WTF? He gets over a million bucks as part of this award? This has got to be the biggest load of BS since he became president.

100% agreed. They definitely jumped the gun here...And unfortunately I don't think that the "Obama vibe" is going to go away soon! (praise the day it does!)

that award is a joke, first they give it to Arafat then Al Gore and now this. the nobel peace prize should be awarded to people like Mother Teresa, who made great personal sacrifices in order to help those in need, not politicians who make pretty speeches about peace and harmony and expect others to do the work

I think politicans can do much to create peace but I think this was jumping the gun quite a bit.
