A buddy of mine just got his 1st car, 350z......bastard...

He showed it to me yesterday, as I was envying it he asked me if I knew how to fix his tachometer? I said probably not but whats wrong? His RPM needle jumps around in like 1k increments back and forth. He asked if I knew how to fix it. Me, not ever working on a car in my life (want to learn though!), said no, but I would ask around for him.

So a couple questions come to mind here.

    1. Is it an easy fix?

    2. Would it be easier to just get a new tach?

    3. How many things could be wrong?

Assuming it is an electric tach, then probably a loose connection under the hood. Otherwise replace it.

It will be at the sensor pickup or where the lead connects at the tach. Otherwise could be the wire is broken inside the insulation. I would check both ends and then the wire for continuity. If it is none of those toss the tach.
