Default TREX Cam for an LS1 98 Camaro

Hey, was thinking of buying the TREX cam for my current LS1 engine in my car and was wondering if I am going to need to do any changes to the engine so that the cam runs well.... with the exception of buying new heads. Here are the specs for the cam

242/248 - .608/.612 - 110 lsa 3500-6700 RPM Power Band

Headers, Intake, Motor mounts. Some kind of mail order tune or dyno tune after the swap. Stall if your an auto or gears if its a stick car.

^^^ those numbers are at .50. You are gonna need some serious gears if your a m6 or a serious stall and gears if your an a4 for that cam. I would also suggest checking ptv clearance too.

Well I already have a new valve train set up that I got with from comp cams a while back that can support this type of power. And for the converter, I think the site mentioned getting a converter for 4000, but I dont remember. Oh, and my car is an A4. Thanks for the info though guys. Much appreciated.

There is really no need for a cam that size in a stock ls1 street driven vehicle. Personally I would pick something in the low to mid 230's and use about a 3200-3600 stall. If you want it to have alot of bump get it ground on a 110 lsa.

The trex is made to fit a completely stock ls1 with ample ptv clearance. Unless it's a max effort track only car with big stall and steep gears. You are going to get beaten by alot of small cam cars.

look around for the best local shop and get it street tuned and dyno tuned for the best. and put a 400 mile break-in to then a final tune. a good tuner will include it all in one price.

you dont need that big of a cam to get to 400 rwhp. i put down just over 400 whit a Torquer v.2 cam and bolt on's. and the Torquer v.2 is a beter street car cam imo. but ever one has there own openion on what is a street set up.

depending how the person does the cam sawp... i would do lifters while youre at it

some people like to go the hard route and pull the heads off... if theyre alread in there you might as well do lifters while youre at it

if they dont pull the heads i wouldnt worry too much about it

all i know is after about 50k on my aftermarket cam one of my stock lifters went bye bye.... but i know plenty of people with stock lifters doing just fine

What I'm looking for is a good deal on a mean street cam that isn't too big that comes with the respected lifters for that cam and pushrods aren't a big problem, the mechanic I was going to use for the installation was going to just do it the easy way by pulling all the intake accesories to get straight to the cam, but like I said, regardless I was going to replace the lifters. Any word on the GM Hot Cam for my car? And if anyone knows of any great deals online please let me know.

u cant swap lifters unless u pull the heads.. but to do a cam swap itsjust the water pump crank pulley and front cover... putting lifters in is a good idea but hell if ur gonna go and do that why not toss on a set of heads while ur at it

The 224R is a very good and proven cam, but im sure you will be wanting something a little bit bigger once you have it installed. If youre wanting to stay with TSP then try something closer to the 228r.

I intend to keep it N/A for as long as I can. Figure a naturally aspirated beast has more potential when I'm prepared to boost it. And I was looking t the 228R as well.
