well there were many cars that came with a 460 in it. LTDs, mark V's, there were some cougars that had them, i beleive in a few old mustangs as well. I know there are more but I can't really think right now. I do know that i have 4 different 460s just sitting around up in wisconsin. at least 1 of them is also a 460 DOVE engine

You can call Pro Speed in FT. Smith, Arkansas. They sell a kit for a 460 in a foxbody, the owner drives one to work everyday, his drag car is a......you guessed it built 460 in a Fox Body. I thought about doing the swap in a fox that I used to have but Changed my mind due to the fact that I had a good running motor in it already, and sold it for a truck that I have now.

I said i think. I wasn't stating that one for fact thus me saying I think some old mustangs. But yes on second thought of the matter it was the 429 not the 460 in the old mustang along with the 428 and the ever so sought after 427. I wish I could have a cammer. That would be a treat to put in a notch stang.

they weren't in mustangs.

they were in full size cars from 72ish to the early eighties i believe.

i did a lot of research on this a while back when my friend was swapping a new engine into his 65. but we went efi 5.0 instead.

i wish i could get on his computer, there was a website i found on what cars it was in and how to spot a 460. i'll loook for it for you.

it's in the compression of the pistons really.

you could use exactly what they did and just dish the pistons a little bit or you could just get lower compression pistons. it's just a matter of finding stuff with a 460.

The highest output factory 460CID V8 was in the 1967-1972 Lincoln Continentals and Mark III's and IV's. This engine was rated at 365bhp and 500 ft/lbs of torque. These had the coveted D3VE or "DOVE" heads and a wilder cam, along with a lack of all the emissions garbage that came along to plague the larger engines after 1972.

Do NOT consider building a 462CID unless you plan on spending massive amounts of money for little power gain, poor driveability and reliability... they are big iron turds.

I had one in a 1985 (1988 Front clip) Thunderbird Turbocoupe and was debating on putting one in my new Mark VII. I love the 460's....

go to www.bigblockfox.com and check the stangs with 460' on up in them. I have an 87 that had a 472 in it and have that jegs kit. The kit came with Hooker comp headrers, oil pump with sump, oil pan, mounts, dip stick and gasgets. I am currently putting engine plates in my car and the kit is for sale for 500.00 obo and was in the car for only about 3k miles. PM me is you want the kit.
