I have been looking for a throwback import as a new project for awhile and came across this 71 240z. Needs a motor and a lot of other things but thats what i wanted and its cheap. Problem is i know absolutely nothing about these cars, is there anyone here that does? What should i look for when i go to check it out? popular engine swaps? Thanks

I think I can be of service..... 1.Look for floor board rust. 2.Look for frame rail rust. 3. repeat steps 2 & 3 Engine swaps.... I did a sbc swap on mine. Its the most common, most documented, easiest swap to do into these cars.(Click on my name in my sig to look at build thread) Jagsthatrun.com makes conversion kits and swap manuals, but just about everything under the sun has been swapped into these cars. Everything from V12 jag motors to GN motors to sr20det. Lots of information can be found on Hyridz.org... essentially the mecca of datsun engine swaps. Make sure to search first as most any question you have is covered. Best advice I can give is to find the cleanest body you can and start with that. The headache of rust repair is not worth it but may be a necessity in your part of the country. The "custom" hood makes me weary of possibly shoddy body work. My dad had a 73 240z we turned into an autocross car. It was completely stripped down though so I don't know much about the original setup. We put a SBC in it, I'm pretty sure that's the most common swap, the one I've seen the most anyways.

I figured you'd like the GN swap idea... good looking Buick in your profile Its really only been done a handful of times, so you'd probably be on your own to make mounts ... but here is a vid of one completed and obviously not stock..... http://videos.streetfire.net/video/S...down_20027.htm The guy who owned that one sold it couple years back. |
