View Full Version : Looking for a company to widen wheels
donkeypunch 04-26-2006, 04:09 PM I know that Wheel America can widen wheels and provide the donor wheel as well. However, are there any other companies within DFW that can offer this service with good quality? I want to widen my stock 17x9.5 rims to 17x12.
Many thanks.
Labora 04-26-2006, 05:04 PM ^just for a sleeper effect or what???
Wheels of America is the only place I know of in DFW. Usually most people don't do it because for about the same amount of $$ you can usually get nicer rims then say stock.. :P

I know a guy in Arlington...the most you can add to a wheel is 1inch...I will try and get number for you tomorrow..
alot of people wont do it because most factory wheels are "dirty" cast. any cutting or welding to the structural portion can greatly weaken the structure.

Wheel America charges only $200 per wheel. Now 17"x12" rins for $200 a piece is not a bad price.
It's really not for a sleeper effect. It's for those "SERIOUS" nights or arranged runs. It's for TRACTION! Unfortunately, no one makes a soft, sticky DR for 19" wheels. If they did I would buy them in a heartbeat regardless of price. I love my 19" CCW rims and the rears are 11" wide but I kow with my new setup that traction, even at 65mph, will be a big issue. I have my stock rims and the rears are 17"x9.45". I want to take them to 17"x 12" in the rear and through on some 315 DR's on the back.
Other Supras have done this and report no instability or handling problems. However, I am looking for someone local.
Here are some pics of what 315 on 12" rear stocker rims. Damn, these look so mean.

TT4U2NV 04-26-2006, 10:23 PM Ya dude if you can find a set of nicer wheels to fit a supra than 200 bucks lemme know cause im in. Some of the bogarts and Welds are pretty cheap but 9 times outta 10 they wont fit the supra lug pattern.
Good luck allen.
Labora 04-27-2006, 12:46 AM Well sucks to be you supra guys then. :P For 400$ I can go out and pick up a set of welds if I cared to have some, wide rims.. :P
Last I had checked they charged more then that too. I had looked into doing it about 3 years ago and they told me 250 each!
Juiced-4V 04-27-2006, 08:21 AM I have 335's on my cobra....but I went with prostars after that its way cheaper and you can still get a wide tire on 15' rim...
Gadfly 05-04-2006, 11:07 AM hmm... I might do that...
I am about to strip the chrome off my stockers, and powder coat them black.
if i could widen them... hmmmm
I am sure you would have to run a spacer to maintain the 50 offset though right?

Mr. Turtle 05-08-2006, 04:00 AM the lighter the faster including wheel size
Cheezebandit 05-08-2006, 07:19 PM Why do you need a 12 inch rim for 315's ... I thought you could fit 315's on a 10.5 .. so an 11 shouldnt be a problem ..
TT4U2NV 05-08-2006, 07:46 PM the lighter the faster including wheel size
Ya but if the wheels too light it doesnt help with the traction issue that high horsepower supras already have.

To give it a sleeper look. I can compensate some contact patch by not making it look so meaty in the back with a tall side wall.
